Jay Boog rode in a Chevrolet Traverse with two close friends when the vehicle came under danger during a drive home.
The driver guided the damaged SUV off the highway and reached the Detroit Police Department’s Sixth Precinct on Warwick Road for help.
Officers responded at the precinct, and authorities pronounced Jay Boog deceased at the station.
Emergency crews took the two other passengers to a nearby hospital, where doctors continued to treat life-threatening injuries.
State police searched the highway area near Outer Drive for evidence and asked anyone with information to contact investigators.
