Colonial A. Hicks, 37, Remembered After Tuesday Evening Interstate 587 Crash Near Saratoga That Saddened Walstonburg
Colonial A. Hicks, a 37-year-old Walstonburg resident, died on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, after a highway crash on Interstate 587 near Saratoga.
State troopers said the crash happened around 6:45 p.m. as Hicks traveled west in a 2017 Dodge Charger near the 34-mile marker.
Authorities reported that the Charger struck the back of a Ford Escape, left the right side of the road, crossed a deep ditch, hit a tree, and caught fire.
Emergency crews responded quickly, but Hicks died at the scene from fatal injuries.
The Ford Escape driver did not report any physical injuries.
Investigators said high speed played a major role, and they continue to review whether mechanical issues or road distractions contributed.
Walstonburg residents described Hicks as a warm community member who offered kindness freely and stayed closely connected to local friends and neighbors.
